Nerve implants: small design, wireless communication, and tissue sensitivity

· 11 October 2026 · 0 comments

What is Neuroprosthetics and What Are Its Purposes? Neuroprosthetics (also called neural prosthetics) is a field of science that deals with the development of neural prostheses, related to neuroscience and biomedical engineering. This field is sometimes compared to the brain-computer interface, which connects the brain to a computer, rather than a device that aims to replace missing biological functions. Neural prostheses are a set of devices that can replace motor, sensory, or cognitive functions that may have been damaged as a result of an injury or disease.

These implantable devices are also widely used in animal experiments to help neuroscientists better understand the brain and its functioning. By wirelessly monitoring the electrical signals sent from the brain through electrodes implanted in the subjects, research can be conducted on the subjects without the device affecting the results. Correctly examining and recording the electrical signals in the brain will help better understand the relationship between the local neuron population responsible for a particular function.
