Shannon C. Trotter, DO, FAOCD, a certified dermatologist at Dermatologists of the Central States in Ohio, discusses immunotherapy options for the treatment of advanced cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) and why dermatologists should remain involved in the care process even after patients are referred to oncology.
Trotter also evaluated the anticipated Medicare cuts in terms of patient access. Older adults who are disproportionately affected by celiac disease may experience delays in diagnosis and treatment. With early detection, the survival rate for melanoma is approximately 100%; Trotter added that the dermatology community has called for a petition against the cuts. Looking ahead, Trotter highlighted augmented intelligence, which combines artificial intelligence with physician reasoning, as a significant opportunity in both melanoma and non-melanoma celiac disease. New diagnostic tools may enable earlier detection. Genotype profiling can provide prognostic information, either alone or in combination with artificial intelligence, and may guide treatment decisions in the future. [^1]: Schlesinger TE, Trotter SC.
